Sunglint on the Alabama River

.In this particular June 26, 2023, image taken from the International Space Station, sunlight polishes off the smooth waters of the Alabama River in a sensation referred to as sunglint. When photographing The planet, astronauts typically benefit from sunglint's propensity to improve the contrast in between water surface areas and surrounding property areas. In the 1960s, the Alabama Stream was obstructed, making Dannelly Tank (the huge polishing region at facility left). Construction of the dam also brought up water levels upriver. This led to flooding at a number of aspects along the river. These flooded zones are actually traditional of flood plains-- the poor, level places quickly close to bigger waterways. Within this image, disaster area look like off-balance, brilliant forms expanding out of the stream, like at Gee's Bend (facility base).Text Credit Score: Justin Wilkinson.Graphic Credit: NASA/Woody Hoburg.
